Grief Circle | Día de los Muertos

Mon, Nov 1 @ 6:30 pm Pacific Time

Each Grief Circle centers around 3 prompts. Grief Circle attendees are invited to share their prompt responses through poetry, story, or art. We find transformational healing when we have the space to come together and speak directly about our grief.

Join us for this special edition of Grief Circle on Zoom with the theme of Día de los Muertos. You can access the Zoom link through the online event page on Eventbrite once you get your ticket.

This event is co-hosted with Rev. Paul Ortiz of University Temple United Methodist Church. Spirituality and grief have an interesting relationship across many faith backgrounds. So, we're excited to see what unfolds in co-hosting this particular Grief Circle with Rev. Paul.

University Temple practices inclusive hospitality, and is committed to being an inclusive church: "...we stand proudly with our LBGTQI family. We work with and learn from marginalized people in the neighborhood, trying to bridge the divisions of class and circumstance."

Día de los Muertos Theme

Rev. Paul will also be bringing the lens of Día de los Muertos as a holiday that has significantly shaped how he understands and practices grief and spirituality together, rooting from his Mexican/Latinx identity.

INVITATION:

We'll share our own answers through story, thought or poetry & invite anyone who would like to share their story to offer their voice through STORY / THOUGHT / POEM / SONG / AN ART FORM, etc.

PROMPTS:

💛 Practice of remembrance / what remembrance means to you

(If you'll be joining us from home, feel free to share objects or even spaces like altars or ofrendas with us. As with all Grief Circles, all cultures are welcome, and we can learn from one another.)

💛 Grief & Spirituality: how each is changed by the other

💛 Grief is a teacher

TICKET TIERS:

  • Community Ticket: $1

  • Sliding Scale Ticket: $1 - $34

  • Standard Ticket: $35

NOTE & RESOURCES:

Because the prompts can get into sensitive territory, please note we are artists and community leaders, not mental health professionals. When sharing, honor where you are, and only share what will be life giving for you.

These Grief Circles have been running since Feb 2021.
