Gifts for Her

Hotel People

Birthday Gift

Jared commissioned this piece for his partner Rachel’s birthday. The piece focuses on a period in their relationship that was long distance, back before COVID, where they spent time together only on adventures, in hotels and on the road. It became an inside joke between them that they were "hotel people." In listening to Jared's stories, adventure and family were major themes. Their dog is named Leia, so I thought it'd be fun to add Star Wars as a theme and put their family in a spaceship-like car.

The piece speaks to their past adventures, while also acting as an anthem for future adventures. Oh, and HPC on their helmets? That's "Hotel People Crew."

In Their Own Words:

“It was my partner’s birthday and I was looking for something that couldn’t be purchased on Amazon. Our relationship was so much about experiences and sharing things together; in COVID times there were no adventures on the near horizon, so when I found Miranda’s work, I knew It would be perfect.

“Miranda is a joy to work with. I was nervous to share personal memories with someone, but Miranda followed the thread of what I wanted to convey in a piece better than I could have hoped. I’m new to commissioning art, and it couldn’t have been an easier interaction. She just made me feel excited about the whole project from start to finish.

“As for how it was received, I told Miranda I thought the final piece would make my partner cry, hahaha, and I was right. She adores it.

“Original art is a gift for both the giver and receiver. Miranda created something that had lived in my head ambiguously for months and the result is ridiculous, but charming, beautiful while goofy: A perfect reflection of my partner and our relationship. Will be hard pressed for all gifting occasions from now on.”

“Should have got a video of me opening this, I was bawling immediately. [Miranda] you are such a treasure thank you for this special gift!!!”
