Janet & Winston’s Home Bakery

Wedding Gift

This piece was commissioned as a wedding gift for a newly married couple. I learned they both love cooking and baking and had even made 菠蘿包 (pineapple bun) together, pronounced “boh loh bao” in Cantonese.

Since they would probably be trying out new recipes, I thought creating the idea of “Janet and Winston’s Home Bakery” would be a fun addition to their home, celebrating all the new adventures they would have in their kitchen.

“You are the ‘boh loh’ to my ‘bao,’” means “You are the ‘pineapple’ to my ‘bun.’” If you put them together, you get “boh loh bao” or “pineapple bun.” Although there is no actual pineapple in the recipe, I thought it was super fun and cute to illustrate a pineapple and a “bao” (bun) together.
