Moving Gift
Nik commissioned this illustration for their partner to commemorate a memory playing Mancala together in a beloved apartment before a big move. This piece was a beautiful opportunity to capture a time and place in the midst of so much transition in our current landscape.
As I created the piece, a prompt came to mind: "If we were all simply containers for love…" I included a butterfly as a symbol of metamorphosis, change, and rebirth to reflect the move and a journey to a new home. The Mancala pieces humorously embark on their own journey too, outside of the game board.
