Why did I want to have an episode in Cantonese?

(hopefully to be shared / updated later / shared in a future episode)

In this episode, I’ll share a story about the experience in life where you might encounter a meaningful or heartfelt moment, but then the next moment comes, and there’s something else you need to hurriedly rush off to.

This story also reflects how, sometimes you’re in one life stage, and you can’t quite experience what’s in another life stage until you actually get to that stage.

This story talks about those experiences, and is a work of fiction.

In the story, I share about two characters. It just reflects one perspective, and not the perspectives of everyone.

Okay, now onto the story!

In the story, there is a little girl who walks to school everyday. On her way to school, she passes a park where she often encounters a grandma.

She often stops to greet the grandma and chat together.

Sometimes she sees the grandma having fun with her friends, dancing, chatting, or practicing tai chi on her own, relaxing, listening to birds, enjoying the fresh air and scenery.

But today, the little girl feels that the grandma is sad, and so she stops to see how she is doing.

The little girl says, “You seem sad, is something wrong?”

The grandma answers, “You wouldn’t understand. Sometimes being old is very hard. Your body hurts, you can’t sleep well, there are many things you can’t eat, and a lot of your friends are no longer around.”

The little girl thinks to herself, hmm… you are right, I don’t quite understand. I’m 5 years old, and soon I will be 6. Once I’m 6, I can swim more, learn more, make more friends, have more fun, eat more desserts. It sounds like a great time.

But the little girl saw that the grandma was sad, so she said aloud, “Hmm, I understand. I understand.” And she really wanted to hug the grandma and wrap her arms around her, comfort her.

But all of a sudden, the little girl remembered, she had to turn in her homework today! And so she said to the grandma, “I’m so sorry, but I have to rush off to school! I’ll visit you again after school.”

So the little girl ran off to school.

After school, the little girl went back to find the grandma, but no matter where she walked in the park, she couldn’t find her.

She ended up going back to the spot where they met in the morning.

All of a sudden, she noticed flowers of many colors started popping up. She looked up and saw the trees and birds singing. Butterflies flying in the sky. Suddenly, the little girl felt so soothed, so at peace.

She stood there, and suddenly felt raindrops falling on her. And a huge rain suddenly started to fall. The little girl stood under the tree and looked up into the sky, and saw two beautiful rainbows.

In this place, with all the flowers, birds singing, big rain, butterflies flying, she felt it was so peaceful, so soothing, so beautiful, so marvelous and wonderful.

But suddenly she remembered, Oh no, tomorrow I have to turn in my homework again! My homework is soaked from the rain!

And so she ran home.

End.

So that’s the story. If you like this podcast, listen again next time. Chat then~

xoxo,
